How to play Palavrinha
- Guess the day's five-letter Portuguese word in six tries. Every guess has to be a real word.
- Green: the letter is in the word, in that place. Gold: it's in the word, somewhere else. Grey: it isn't in the word (or not as many times).
- No accents needed: type maca for maçã, and the tiles show the accents for you.
- Every answer is a common word, one you'll meet early on. Win or lose, you get its meaning, an example sentence and its recording.
- A new word every day at midnight, New York time. Keep your streak, and share your grid.
Questions
- Is Palavrinha like Termo?
- It's the same idea, five letters and six tries, but made for people learning Portuguese: every answer is a common word rather than a rare one, and at the end you get its meaning, an example sentence and its recording.
- Do I need to type accents?
- No. Type the letters (maca for maçã, acao for ação), and the tiles show the word with its accents once the row is scored.
- What words can I guess?
- About 18,500 Portuguese words of five letters: the words on Verbeto's lists, every verb form (falei, comeu), and the words of the Brazilian spelling dictionary. The answer is always one of the common ones.
