Palavrio

Questions

How do you play Palavrio?

Each day there are five prompts, such as “a fruit” or “a word ending in -ção”, and you have 30 seconds to type one Portuguese word for each. Words not on the list cost nothing, the first valid one locks in, and the rarer it is, the more points it scores and the further Capi walks into the forest.

Do I need accents?

No: accents, capitals and the article are all optional, so maca, maçã and a maçã count as the same answer. Spaces and hyphens don't matter either, so pão de queijo and paodequeijo both work.

How is rarity scored?

Each answer has a rarity from 1 to 10 that puts it in one of six tiers, from the sapinho (15 points) to the Curupira (100 points), so a perfect day is 500. For now rarity comes from how common the word is in real Portuguese; once enough people play, it will come from how few players gave the same answer.

Who are the Saci and the Curupira?

The Saci is Brazilian folklore's one-legged trickster, a boy in a red cap who travels in whirlwinds and plays pranks around the house and the forest. The Curupira is the guardian of the forest, with flaming hair and feet turned backwards, so hunters who follow his tracks walk the wrong way.

Is Palavrio like Termo?

No: in Termo you guess one hidden word, while in Palavrio you name words in a category, and any word on the list counts. It's made for learners: accents and articles are optional, and a near miss gets a "did you mean" with the right spelling.
