The rules, in language you can actually read.

The reader lets you import EPUB files you already have, read them, tap words for an explanation generated by an AI model, and review those words over time. It is provided by Samuel Virgo, a sole trader trading as Verbeto.

You need an account to save anything. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. One person per account. You must be at least 13 years old.

You keep every right you already had in the files you upload. We store them only to give them back to you on your other devices, and we do not read, share or publish them.

You must have the right to the files you upload. Do not upload books you have not bought or that are not otherwise lawfully yours. We will remove material on a credible rights complaint and may close accounts that repeatedly infringe.

Explanations are generated by a language model. They are usually good and they are sometimes wrong — that is the nature of the technology. Treat them as a well-read study partner rather than an authority, and do not rely on them where being mistaken would matter.

Accounts have limits on how many explanations, pronunciations and books they can use, because each one costs real money to serve. The current limits are shown in the app. Do not attempt to bypass them, scrape the service, or use it to build a competing dataset.

Verbeto is free to use. The paid plans, Reader and Fluent, raise those limits and are billed monthly or yearly. Prices are in US dollars and are shown on the pricing page and at checkout, together with any tax that applies where you live.

Billing and renewal. You pay when you subscribe, and then at the start of each month or year until you cancel — the plan renews automatically. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Manage billing in the app. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for, then your account moves to the free plan. Nothing you have saved is deleted.

14-day money-back guarantee. If a paid plan is not for you, write to support@verbeto.com within 14 days of your first payment for it and we will refund that payment in full — no reason needed. The refund goes back to the card you paid with, and the plan ends when it is made. This also covers your legal right to cancel within 14 days. Later renewals are not refunded for a period that has already started, except where the law requires it.

Price changes. If a plan's price changes, we will tell you at least 30 days before the new price applies to you. It takes effect from your next renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.

Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, it is retried over the following days and your plan keeps working meanwhile. If it still cannot be taken, the plan ends and your account moves to the free plan.

Deleting your account ends any subscription immediately. If you do this within 14 days of your first payment, the guarantee above still applies — write to us for the refund.

We aim to keep the service running and your data safe, but it is provided as-is, without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability. Keep your own copies of any book files that matter to you.

You can delete your account at any time, which permanently removes your books, vocabulary and review history. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, and will explain why unless we are prevented from doing so.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in its courts. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the European Union, you keep the protection of your own country's consumer law, and you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
