How to play Palavrio

Palavrio is a free daily word game for people learning Portuguese. Every day brings the same five prompts for everybody: name a fruit, something in the kitchen, a word with nh. Type one Portuguese word for each before the 30 seconds run out.

The rarer your word, the more points it scores, and the deeper Capi, our capybara explorer, walks into the Brazilian forest: past a frog, a capybara, a toucan and an armadillo, all the way to the Saci and the Curupira.

The rules

Five prompts a day, the easiest first, 30 seconds each.
Type one Portuguese word. Accents and the article are optional: maca, maçã and a maçã all count.
A word that isn't on our list costs nothing: keep typing until one is. The first valid word locks in.
The rarer the word, the more points it scores, up to 100, and the further Capi runs: a common word reaches the forest edge, a legend the enchanted heart.
A new Palavrio every day at midnight in New York. Share your result, keep your streak, and collect every creature in your bestiário.
