The browser extension
Any page. Any word. Explained in its sentence.
Reading Portuguese on the web and a word stops you? Double-click it. Verbeto says what it means right there, and saves it so it comes back for review.
Coming to the Chrome Web Store. Until then, it can be loaded from the source.
How it works
- 1Double-click a word, or Alt-click one inside a link. Plain clicks are never taken, so pages keep working.
- 2The dictionary answers at once: free, and with no account.
- 3Connected to your Verbeto account, the word is explained in its sentence — the sense in play, the expression it belongs to, the form it comes from.
- 4Every word you tap is saved for review, with the sentence and the page it was met on. One click to undo a slip.
- 5On YouTube, a video's Portuguese subtitles are drawn with every word tappable and a translation line underneath; the video pauses while you read.
Privacy
The extension sends something to Verbeto only when you double-click a word, on a page or in a video's subtitles: that word, its sentence and paragraph, and the page's or video's title and address. Connected, they are stored in your account like a word tapped in a book; not connected, only the word goes, for the dictionary, and nothing is stored. On YouTube it reads the video's own subtitles from the player, and nothing else.
It does not read pages you are on, does not record your browsing, and does not send anything until you ask about a word. Plain clicks are never taken.
Disconnect at any time from the extension's popup, which ends its access to your account. Removing the extension removes everything it kept on this computer. What is in your account stays yours: export it or delete the account from Settings.
