About fazer

Irregular: faço in the present (and faz, with no final -e), fiz and fez in the past, farei in the future, feito as the participle. Fazer covers both “do” and “make”. It also tells the weather (faz frio, “it's cold”) and how long something has been going on: faz dois anos que moro aqui, “I've lived here for two years”. Fazer aniversário is “to have a birthday”. To tell someone what to do, Brazilians say faz in speech and faça in writing. Desfazer, refazer and satisfazer conjugate like fazer.

Examples

  • O que você faz?

What do you do (for a living)?

  • Faz dez anos que moro aqui.

I've lived here for ten years.

  • Ela fez um bolo de cenoura.

    She made a carrot cake.
