About ver

Irregular: vejo, vê, vemos, veem in the present (veem lost its circumflex in the 1990 spelling reform), vi and viu in the past, visto as the participle. Its future subjunctive is vir — quando eu vir, “when I see” — spelled like the infinitive of vir; in speech many say quando eu ver, which grammar books count as a mistake. Vimos means both “we saw” and “we come”. Ver is also “to watch”: ver um filme. Prever and rever conjugate like ver; prover does not.

Examples

  • Você viu meu celular?

    Have you seen my phone?

  • A gente vê um filme hoje à noite?

Shall we watch a film tonight?

  • Quando você vir a Maria, dá um abraço nela.

When you see Maria, give her a hug.
